Hormone Optimization

Hormone optimization focuses on evaluating and adjusting hormone levels in the body to achieve balance. At Tangled Minds, this may involve making lifestyle changes, dietary improvements, increasing exercise, and, when needed, using bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) that is customized to your individual needs.

Since every person’s hormonal requirements are unique, BHRT is tailored to address your specific situation.

It’s important to work closely with a healthcare provider to develop a treatment plan that effectively restores hormonal balance while ensuring safety. Your provider will monitor your progress and make adjustments as needed to help you achieve optimal health.

What is Bioidentical Hormone Replacement (BHRT)?

Hormones are regulatory substances produced by the body and transported in tissue fluids such as blood to stimulate specific cells or tissues into action. They are chemical messengers and deliver the message to the respective receptor. The term bioidentical indicates the chemical structure of the hormone. Bioidentical hormones are derived from plants and are converted into chemical structures that precisely match the human hormones manufactured by the body. The plant derived bioidentical hormones function exactly the same as the hormones the body makes and in fact, the body recognizes them as if they were actually produced by the ovaries. Thus, having the same action and effect and are metabolized into the same downstream metabolites, have the same binding affininity and are expected to restore normal physiology.

What is Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) or Synthetic Hormones?

HRT does not usually consist of hormones biologically identical to those our bodies produce. Instead, HRT is comprised of synthetic and/or animal-derived hormones.. Since non-bioidentical hormones differ in molecular structure from those the human body produces, they do not function exactly like endogenous human hormones. Nor do our bodies process them the same way. These non-bioidentical hormones are similar enough to mimic some of the activities of the human hormones they are replacing but they can cause side effects that human-produced hormones do not.

Understanding Hormone Imbalance in Women

Hormone imbalance can affect women at various stages of life, including younger women in their twenties. As women enter their thirties, hormone levels may begin to decline, potentially leading to symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle. Early imbalances can manifest as weight gain, headaches, decreased libido, and mood changes, among other issues.
As women transition into their forties and fifties, they may experience additional symptoms related to hormonal fluctuations. Common symptoms reported by perimenopausal women include:
  • Sleep Issues: 53.4%
  • Hot Flashes: 50%
  • Anxiety: 67.8%
  • Irritability: 65.6%
  • Bladder Problems: 46.7%
  • Sexual Discomfort: 44.4%

For postmenopausal women, frequently reported symptoms include:

ï„™

Joint Pain: 56.2%

ï„™

Depressive Mood: 70%

ï„™

Physical and Mental Exhaustion: 63.4%

ï„™

Vaginal Dryness: 64.8%

ï„™

Sexual Issues: 58.1%

If you’re experiencing any of the following symptoms, it may indicate a hormonal imbalance:

Weight gain, particularly around the abdomen or hips
ï—ˆ
Hot flashes or night sweats
ï—ˆ
Irregular menstrual cycles or cessation of periods
ï—ˆ
Hormonal headaches or migraines
